Public Speaking Excellence: Seth Godin

The Dip Seth Godin, author of The Dip spoke in Santa Clara last night. He’s a masterful public speaker as well as an awesome entrepreneur and thought leader.

I can recommend dipping into his blog for his take on a range of ideas.

This brief extract from his talk captures the flavor of The Dip: recognizing the power of being the best in the world at what you do and resisting the temptation to quit before you get to be the best.

[…] 25th, 2007 Like everyone else there, I really enjoyed Seth Godin’s visit to Silicon Valley to discuss his new book “The Dip”.  Not only is he a fantastic speaker, his idea of […]

I really liked Seth’s book The Dip. Research has shown that public speaking is the number one fear.

I liked your idea about recognizing the dip. I am reading The Long Tail right now as a matter of fact. Great book!
I am trying to become a public speaker myself. I have an extensive background in education/business both corporate and entrepreneurial. Plus, I come from an Hispanic Heritage which gives me a different perspective on the US Business environment. I am at the dip however. I have been reading in economics for the last fifteen years. So, couple theory with experience and I have a broad-based understanding of the knowledge-based economy/information age and what the latest thinking and writing is on the subject.
I like your advice and will stick to it.

Seth has great public speaking skills, that were without a doubt practiced.

I totally agree – Toastmasters is the best way to improve public speaking skills. And at a cost of only $35 for 6 months membership the price is right!
