Pro-Track Follow up: Nan Andrews Amish summary

Nan Andrews Amish summarized Saturday’s meeting and action items. She has given me permission to reprint this:

Some of you may have heard that when you go to a workshop, if you do not apply the learning in the next 48 hours, there is significant loss of the material. It has been 72 hours. Have you completed your one sheet yet?

To those of you who already have your marketing plans, one sheets, and visual branding completed, congratulations!
For those of us in information overload, here are a few ideas to keep the progress coming!

Becoming a speaker is a huge undertaking. It does not happens overnight. As speakers we need all the elements of a business as a Fortune 1000 company, yet we are often do it on a shoestring budget, or while balancing our “day job” and often with no staff or assistance. That is a BIG order!

Those of us who have other businesses, for which speaking is just one more offering will get there faster, than those of us who are starting a whole new endeavor. Have patience with yourself. Everyone moves at their own pace, and it is perfect for you.

For those of you who are feeling you need to do everything and do not know where to start, consider answering these top questions, and moving from there. If you can answer these questions, your one sheet will flow, pretty easily!

1. What is your unique value proposition, your distinctive competence, your competitive advantage as a SPEAKER? What is it that you can offer better than anyone else? (Differentiation)

2. Who would most benefit from that knowledge? (Target market)

3. How would that information, inspiration, stories, expertise make a difference for them? (Benefit)

3. What problem does this value you offer address for this target market? If they spend time with you, what cost do they avoid, what problem goes away, what benefit do they reap? (Problem/Solution)

4. How do you deliver that? (Features of your offering)

Tie these all together and you have your positioning statements, and the basis for your brand. (Positioning, Unique Selling Proposition)

Then, you can to find ways to visually represent your brand. (Before that, it may be premature!)

What look do you want?
What would speak to your target clients?
What colors match the message?
What font types say “YOU”?
What look and feel and brand essence will help unconsciously make your target market WANT to learn more, from reading and hearing about you?

Consider doing a draft of your one sheet, employing what you learned on Saturday today, and definitely prior to going to convention. Know your messages PRIOR to going, and you will get more from convention. Wait, and you will lose a lot of recall.

If you want to bounce the next version of your one sheet or other marketing elements off me, feel free to give me a call. The first 15 minutes are on me.

If you want more than 15 minutes, I would be honored to work with any of you as a client.

Thanks again for the opportunity to share a bit of my passion with you.

Happy Pro-Tracking! Good speaking!

Cheers,

Nan Andrews Amish
