I think the UK is a way behind the US with Twitter "for business". Very few firms and individuals appear to be  taking up this new medium of communication.</description>

The stats on Twitter growth are all over the map. I found &lt;a href="http://mashable.com/2009/03/16/twitter-growth-rate-versus-facebook/" rel="nofollow"&gt;this reference&lt;/a&gt; to a staggering 1,328% growth in Twitter year-over-year. However, there is also a &lt;a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/06/06/on-twitter-most-people-are-sheep-80-percent-of-accounts-have-fewer-than-10-follower/" rel="nofollow"&gt;significant abandonment rate&lt;/a&gt;.  So 40% seemed like a conservative statement I could make in my article. (Truth is, I read it somewhere and did not keep a record of the source...)

In terms of worldwide use &lt;a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-twitters-boom-around-the-world-2009-8" rel="nofollow"&gt;this chart&lt;/a&gt; shows about half the users are based in the USA.</description>
