How to: Create an account on YouTube

Are you new to Social Networking? Is everyone at the local coffee shop telling you that you should be on YouTube?

YouTube is a phenomena. The Pew Internet & American Life Project reports that YouTube is more popular than Facebook and Twitter:

“…the share of online adults who watch videos on video-sharing sites has nearly doubled since 2006.”

In order to enjoy YouTube to the full, and be able to post comments and responses to the videos you watch – and upload your own Flip video creations you have to create an account. It’s not at all difficult. Simply go to http://www.youtube.com and sign up.

This brief video from my colleague Jim Carrillo explains how to do this in easy steps.

It’s all part of the Practical Social Networking service we offer.

Although I’d sign this with both hands in general, there are some things to think about when using YouTube for professional services promotion.

Yes, it has a huge audience but this can be disadvantage. Professional services, like speaking and consulting e.g. are still a very niche industry. It can easily get lost in vast YouTube. Make a quick test to see my point. Type “coaching” to the search and you need to go through tons of sports videos before ending up with business coach. “Speaker” gives you a lot of loudspeakers even if you specify your search. Many professional service channels at YouTube have got below hundred page views. You can simply get lost there.

Still, if the decision needs to be made to be or not to be at YouTube kind of medium, the choice is definitely “to be”. Only perhaps it could be something more targeted to business audiences and with same plus extra features like http://www.fastleader.net e.g.
