Great insights. Amen to all of your points.

I was just asked today about starting a speech with a joke. It&#039;s hard to believe that that bad piece of advice is still making the rounds. (I rate it right on up there -- or down there -- with telling people to imagine the audience in their underwear.)

I especially like your suggestion to start a speech in the middle. It really works.
