I always thought Mr. Tambourine Man was about a drug dealer, but that's a minor issue. This is very enjoyable and insightful. Thanks.

Good stuff, and I agree...could be an interesting way to approach a book, with each of these being a chapter (the miller, the alchemist, etc). My favorite is the miller.."Edit ruthlessly – throw out 90% of the data the engineers and SME’s send you."
It's one thing to write a good speech, another to stand up to everyone who wants to pile in on it and add useless content. Many times I felt like an air traffic controller trying to keep the planes in formation rather than an executive speechwriter on mission...but that's an analogy for another day.

I agree with Joel. I think this would make an excellent beginning to a book. Your writing is informative and engaging.

Missed your presentation Saturday - is there a chance you would be giving it again - perhaps in Division B or in Central Contra Costa? Is so, when. I would like to attend.
Thanks.

Ian,

This is a wonderful and thoughtful essay. You have a handful of these that could easily be compiled into a book that would be very engaging for the speechwriter.
