I totally agree - Toastmasters is the best way to improve public speaking skills. And at a cost of only $35 for 6 months membership the price is right!

Seth has great public speaking skills, that were without a doubt practiced.

Want a safe place to practice and get feedback?

Toastmasters are extremely low-cost community clubs where people practice in a safe environment. It is completely free to attend meetings as a guest to see if it can be beneficial:

I liked your idea about recognizing the dip. I am reading The Long Tail right now as a matter of fact. Great book!
I am trying to become a public speaker myself. I have an extensive background in education/business both corporate and entrepreneurial. Plus, I come from an Hispanic Heritage which gives me a different perspective on the US Business environment. I am at the dip however. I am trying to get started and finding it very difficult as you say for I have researched on the internet and have seen the topics and videos of other presenter and realize I do have a message very different from anyone I have seen and heard.
I have been reading in economics for the last fifteen years. So, couple theory with experience and I have a broad-based understanding of the knowledge-based economy/information age and what the latest thinking and writing is on the subject.
I like your advice and will stick to it.

I really liked Seth's book The Dip. Research has shown that public speaking is the number one fear.
