British stubbornness

Today’s FT (subscription required) quotes UK-based Cambridge Design Partnership success in Silicon Valley as

the result of British “stubbornness”, a reluctance to do things conventionally, that is lacking in the US.

The Spirit of John Bull beating out the likes of Silicon Valley conventional thinkers such as, who: Google, Apple, Sun Microsystems?

I don’t think so.
